Women's Day

Today is March 8, 2015, and every year this day is dedicated to women around the world. So it’s also called Women’s Day. People have been celebrating this day to honour and respect the women for many years. Husbands buy gifts for their wives and other men do the same for their girlfriends. Activists, feminists officials take part in special forums to talk about women’s problem and the media discuss this day to highlight issues concerning the women.

We used to celebrate this day every year when we were in our home country. However, I never participated in the public and official ceremonies but I managed for a small gathering in our home with friends and families. A day before I had to buy a small gift for my wife and prepared for some colourful bubble and shiny papers to make an in-house location.

The event was quite similar to a birthday celebration. Despite having no cake for cutting It was full of fun. I have only one photo from the last ever Women’s Day we celebrated in our home country. There is a slogan posted on the wall greeting of Eight March in both English and in our native language Persian.
